Biography

Born in Bucharest, Cristina began her musical studies at the Dinu Lipatti Music College at the age of 12, continuing at Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Milano under Maestro Vittorio Terranova. In 2009 she graduated the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna and became a member of the Young Artist Program in Bologna where she works with Dolora Zajick and Jaume Aragall. Cristina is a winner of numerous national and international competitions as: Haricleea Darclée, P. Constantinescu, G. Georgescu, Miniatura Romantica, Martian Negrea, Romanian Olympiade for Singing, Romanian Songs Competition, Johannes Brahms Wettbewerb, F. Schubert, Ferruccio Tagliavini, Iris Adami Corradetti, Luciano Pavarotti, Jaume Aragall, Neue Stimmen Competition.

Cristina has already performed numerous recitals throughout Europe including the prestigious Rosenblatt Recitals in London, Musikverein in Vienna, Ravenna, Lucca, Modena, Padua, Firenze, Milano with Archi della Scala, Teatro Reggio di Parma, Duisburg, Klangvokal Dortmund, Geneva, Paris, Sao Paolo, Konzerthaus Berlin, Barcelona, Alte Oper Frankfurt, Beijing.

At the age of 21 she gave her debut as Magda in La Rondine at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Micaëla in Carmen under Michele Mariotti as well as Mimi in La Bohème.

During her studies she already sang Vittelia in La Clemenza di Tito, Agathe in Der Freischütz, Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, the titlerole in Lucia di Lamermoor, but also in the concert repertoire:  Die Schöpfung, Carmina Burana, Mozart’s Requiem, C moll Messe, the Verdi Requiem in Vienna.

She is very successful as Violetta Valèry at the Tiroler Festpiele Erl under Gustav Kuhn, Bucharest National Opera, Temeswar and at the Oper Frankfurt, singing the role 36 times: “The Romanian soprano sang the role of Violetta Valèry so beautifully that you want to revel in her arias even longer: an effortless smooth voice without a gram of a sloppy sentiment, wonderful coloratura, artistic but unaffected, an expressiveness that even Violetta’s self-doubt about the aria ”È strano” can sound sincere. The audience welcomed her “La Traviata” enthusiastically. Standing ovations for Cristina-Antoaneta Pasaroiu where almost selfevident.”

Cristina recorded Frasquita for the Deutsche Grammophon with Elina Garanca in Torino and La Bohème for Magazzini Sonori. She was invited to take part at Rolando Villazon´s TV Show “Die Stars von Morgen” ZDF and Arte TV as well as in Emmerich Smola Preis in SWR.

In 2012 follows La Rondine at Opéra de Lorraine in Nancy and Deutsche Oper Berlin, Micaëla and Mimi at the St. Margarethen Festival under Alfred Eschwé, production staged by Robert Dornhelm. In Kassel she is Sylva in Die Csardasfürstin, Fiordiligi in Cosi fan tutte. She appeared as Desdemona in Othello  and in Francesco Cilea’s Adriana Lecouvreur  at the Oper Frankfurt and Opéra de Nice. The press was impressed: “The only 26 year old Romanian Cristina Pasaroiu gave a very impressive debut as Adriana. What a voice: round, full, with flowering high notes and an enchanting piano! This singer is not only a mere “hope for the future” – everything is there one needs for the major roles from Verdi to Puccini”.

Cristina made her debut in 2014 as Suor Angelica at Teatro Liceu Barcelona. She was Micaëla in St.Gallen, Nozze di Figaro in Baden and Musetta in La Bohème at Opéra Grand Avignon. A wonderful success brings her the role of Fiordiligi at the Vlaamse Opera and in Ghent.

In 2015-2016 she gives her debut also as Rachel in La Juive at Opéra de Nice next to Neil Shicoff and under the baton of Frédéric Chaslin. “With her incredible instrument, her timbre and her temperament she turned the role into an artwork. Cristina Pasaroiu sang her first Rachel with beautiful tone, impressing technique, a wonderful fiery focused voice and scenic engagement. She is a strong actress.”

In the same season the artist is Mimi in La Bohème, this time at Terme di Caracalla Festival in Rome, Desdemona in Otello at Theater Wiesbaden, Violetta Valèry in La Traviata and Valentine in Les Huguenots at Opéra de Nice, Mimi in La Bohème at Teatro delle Muse in Ancona, Teatro Sao Paulo and Rio di Janeiro, Leila in Les pêcheurs de perles in Tel Aviv, Contessa in Nozze di Figaro in St.Gallen and Gilda in Rigoletto in Essen, La Traviata and Fiordiligi in Wiesbaden, Micäela at the Vienna State Opera and Bayerische Staatsoper München under Karel Mark Chichon and Bregenzer Festspiele. In April 2017 she made her successful debut at the Deutsche Oper Berlin as Magda in La Rondine, followed by concerts with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra and concerts in Tokyo.
In October 2017 she will give her debut as Manon at Theater Wiesbaden, followed by Fiordiligi in Cosi fan tutte and Gilda at Aalto Theater, as well as concerts at the Philharmonie Essen.
